Vinh Hung I Hotel

The original Vinh Hung hotel is a 125-year-old Chinese traders home a block from Hoi Ans Japanese covered bridge on Tran Phu Street. For those who really want to soak in Hoi Ans architectural flavor, stay in one of the two second story rooms in the original wooden house. Furnished with antique furniture and oriental rugs, but a bit dark and threadbare, these rooms are the real thing. One has a small balcony overlooking Tran Phu Street. This room recently served as Michael Caines dressing room during the filming of The Quiet American. (No word yet from Michael on what he thought of it!) Avoid the handfull of cramped, dirty rooms on the main floor.
Beware confusion! There are actually 3 Vinh Hung hotels - all owned by the same folks.
The new Vinh Hung II and Vinh Hung III (yes, they are actually called that!) opened recently and offer basic,
modern rooms.

About Hoi An:
Hoi An is now enjoying something of a renaissance as visitors flock to the once peaceful town. The ancient streets and temples have withstood this modern onslaught remarkably well, and Hoi An remains a "must see" on any tour of Vietnam. The streets themselves - narrow and faced with formidable frontages of ancient "shop-houses" - together with the town's remarkable and eclectic architectural styles, evoke a feeling of times gone by, and it isn't difficult to imagine the town of three - or four hundred years ago, bustling with trade and enjoying its economic and cultural heyday.
Formerly Faifo, this ancient town and World Heritage Site has become one of Vietnam’s most popular tourist destinations. Located south of Danang on the banks of the Thu Bon River, Hoi An was a thriving international commercial port for Chinese, Dutch, French, Japanese, Portuguese and Arab traders who came for locally produced high-grade silk and ceramics. The town has a quaint and distinct Chinese feel with low, tiled-roof houses and narrow streets giving it a unique ambiance.
